How to Talk to Kids About Vaping (by Age)
As an adolescent medicine specialist, Dr. Jennifer Woods discusses various important topics with teens and tweens, including drugs and sex. Currently, vaping is high on her agenda. In Colorado, half of all teens have tried vaping, and many are unaware of its associated risks. Over 60 percent of these teens do not even know that vape products contain nicotine.
Dr. Woods emphasizes the importance of starting conversations early: “If you wait until your child is 13 to begin discussing these issues, it may be too late,” she explains. “You might think, ‘Do I really talk to my 10-year-old about vaping?’ Yes, but the approach will differ from how you would discuss it with a 15-year-old.”
